Appreciating the HardieWrap® Weather Barrier System

The HardieWrap® weather barrier system is an integral part of the James Hardie® fiber cement siding system. This durable, secondary skin of protection provides a strong defense against the elements your home endures 365 days a year.

As the Mid-Atlantic region’s largest James Hardie–certified siding contractor, Colonial Remodeling shares the many ways HardieWrap weather barriers benefit your home in today’s post:

Resisting Water

The HardieWrap weather barrier system is made from non-perforated polyolefin to deny the elements entry into your home. With Pro-Flashing (a butyl rubber self-adhesive), we can easily install these weather barriers around windows and doors. With Flex Flashing, which conveniently stretches and seals custom-shaped structures, your walls will remain dry even if water manages to breech your siding.

Though HardieWrap isn’t seamless, we’ve completely eliminated the risk of water seepage with Seam Tape, which seals vertical and horizontal seams as well as small holes in the weather barrier.

Expelling Indoor Moisture

Condensation resistance is one of the lesser-known benefits of choosing James Hardie for siding replacement. The HardieWrap weather barrier allows moisture to escape your home, preventing condensation and indoor moisture that can lead to mold and mildew growth.

Reducing Thermal Transfer

When it comes to energy efficiency, the HardieWrap helps reduce unwanted heat loss, saving you money on energy bills. When installed properly, it can help you maintain a comfortable indoor temperature without over-burdening your HVAC system.

Preventing Mildew Growth

Thanks to the HardieWrap weather barrier, James Hardie siding installation helps keep your home mildew-free. It contains a unique MicroTech™ Coating, which creates an unfavorable environment for mildew to grow and multiply.
