BBB Ratings: Factors They Consider When Rating a Business

When you’re looking for a home improvement company to install a new roof or a James Hardie siding in your home, always check each candidate’s rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). These ratings represent how businesses interact with their customers and can help you narrow down your search for a contractor. To rate a business, the BBB obtains as much information as they can, including complaints they’ve received from their previous clients.

In this post, Colonial Remodeling discusses the factors that the BBB looks at when they’re rating a business.

Complaint History

The BBB takes into account the number of complaints a business has received, as well as how the business responded to them, whether they were resolved in a timely and satisfying manner, and if they made a good faith effort to resolve said complaints. Should a business fail to meet the BBB’s standards with how they handle complaints, they’ll likely get a low rating.

Business Practices

The way a business operates affects its ratings with the BBB. For instance, a business that can provide adequate information about their products, services, address and ownership will likely gain a high rating. On the other hand, a business that avoids being transparent about their marketplace conduct will get a low rating.

Business Type

The type of business is another factor that BBB considers while they’re rating a business. A company’s rating will likely lower if the BBB thinks it’s a type of business that raises concerns in the marketplace or is possibly operating in violation of the law. To get a trustworthy contractor with a good BBB rating to install your James Hardie siding, look no further than Colonial Remodeling.

Licensing and Government Actions

If a business is seeking BBB accreditation, the BBB regularly checks for a competency licensing and any government actions. Since a competency licensing is required for every business to operate, a business lacking this requirement will have a lower BBB rating. Meanwhile, a business with finalized government actions against it due to its marketplace activities will also get a low rating with the BBB.

Why Working With a BBB Rated Company Matters

Aside from helping you narrow down your contractor search, reliability is another reason why you should work with BBB-accredited companies. A business that has a high BBB rating is more likely to have the experience and professional conduct you need in order to get the best service possible during your home improvement project.
