Insurance Restoration Process

You've had severe weather damage to your home from hail, a tree has fallen on your house, ice has knocked down your gutter system, etc... WHAT DO YOU DO NEXT? Here's a typical scenario for what to expect when you contact Colonial Remodeling...

  • A Colonial Remodeling Field Supervisor will conduct an inspection of your home to determine the extent of damage to your roof, siding, gutters, windows and the interior of your home.
  • Damage? call your insurance company to initiate a claim.

  • Once you have an insurance claim number, Colonial Remodeling's Field Supervisor will contact the Insurance Adjuster assigned to the claim. We will begin the restoration process nowas your representative..

  • Colonial Remodeling will meet with the Adjuster and point out all of the damage. Having us do this for you can make all the difference in the extent of your repairs. We will notify you right away: If the Adjuster agrees with our assessment -or, If they disagree or refuse to pay for everything we feel you are entitled to receive. We will then request that a different Adjuster re-inspect your home. If they still refuse to pay you what we honestly feel you are entitled to, we can have an Arbitrator completely re-inspect your home. You will be kept apprised at all times of the situation.

  • Once we receive approval from your insurance company:.
A.) The Insurance Adjuster will tell your insurance company to write you a check for the least half the total cost of the project. While you are waiting for your check,
B.) You and the Colonial Remodeling Field Supervisor will pick out construction materials, colors, etc..

  • Next, our Field Supervisor will order the materials needed to replace the damaged areas.

  • Our Production Manager will schedule the work to be done on your home and assign the crews.

  • On the day of construction, our Project Manager will be at your home to meet the crews and get started.

  • Once everything is completed, you and our Field Supervisor will go over the Inspection Checklist together in detail, to confirm that everything has been completed to your satisfaction.

  • After completion of work on your home, we invoice your insurance company for the remainder of the money due for the project. When you receive final payment from your insurance company, our Field Supervisor will come to your home to pick up the check and do a final inspection to make sure you are totally happy with the results.

Questions and Answers:

Q: I don't see any hail damage to my roof. What's the emergency?
A: Hail Damage can sometimes be hard to detect with the untrained eye. Colonial Remodeling can assess the damage by carefully going over your roof. Then have your insurance adjuster go up on your roof and inspect it for damage. The damage is sometimes visually subtle and you probably will never see actual holes or indentations - but, a bad hailstorm can knock years off the life of your roof -you'll be glad you took care of the problem now.

Q: How does the insurance company know there's been hail damage to my neighborhood?
A: Insurance companies subscribe to different hail reporting and tracking services. These services can track the hail size, exact location it fell, time of day and the date. This helps the insurance companies decide the validity of hail claims. If you had damaging hail, they already know.

Q: What about my siding?
A: Check your siding when the sun is low and at an angle. This will make it easier to see the denting. Old aluminum siding will show the damage more than wood or vinyl unless the vinyl actually has holes in it.

Q: How do I know I'm dealing with a reputable and experienced company I can depend on? (read article)
A: Storm Chasers move to areas where there is storm damage so they can make a quick dollar - and then leave the area. Check companies through the Better Business in your area and check with the state they are licensed in (to make sure they are indeed licensed and insured). Get referrals to make sure you're dealing with a reputable company. If a company is not local and there are warranty issues later you may have a problem locating them and getting their help. Deal locally and be safe.

Q: How do you handle the process with the Insurance Company?
A: If necessary, we will negotiate with the insurance company to get your claim money for your home's repair. Sometimes, if your adjuster is from out of state, they may not understand that the Washington Metro area costs may be higher. We are happy to point out differences in pricing to the insurance adjuster if it seems too low.

Colonial Remodeling will work in your behalf to represent you making sure that your insurance company is properly indentifying the scope of work needed to do the proper repairs and the correct line item pricing that corresponds to that particular repair. We have years of insurance restoration experience of storm damage work that affects our area. We use the Haag Engineering standards on hail and wind damage, (the same standards insurance companies are supposed to use) which means that you're represented by the most knowledgeable contractor in the area.

Insurance companies use small areas of the damage to work up the entire claim - usually a 10 x 10 foot area. With a large home this may not represent the true damage to your home. When Colonial Remodeling represents you we include an entire roof diagram and use the same software used by insurance companies. We make the process clear and efficient so the process happens in a timely manner

Colonial Remodeling can help you every step of the way.

  • We give you an initial damage assessment.
  • We can meet with your insurance carrier if necessary and help communicate the issue.
  • Complete any home repairs needed and get your life and home back to normal as quickly as possible.
